Royal Vopak — Storing Vital Products with Care, Powered by Data & Operations Research

Royal Vopak is the world’s leading independent tank storage company. With a history spanning over 400 years, we store and handle vital products that keep society moving—ranging from chemicals, oil, and gases to LNG, and increasingly new energies such as hydrogen, ammonia, biofuels, and CO2. We operate an extensive global network of over 70 terminals situated at critical crossroads of international trade flows across 23 countries.

What makes Vopak unique is the intersection of large-scale physical infrastructure with cutting-edge digital intelligence. In our terminals—from Rotterdam to Singapore and Houston—complex physical operations demand high-precision mathematical decision-making. Our Global Analytics & AI team leverages Operations Research, quantitative modeling, and machine learning to optimize jetty scheduling, multi-commodity tank allocation, flow forecasting, and energy efficiency. At Vopak, mathematical models directly steer critical infrastructure on a global scale. We have also started our company Gen AI journey upskilling our staff and building AI solutions to create business value.

Our Core Values: Our culture is anchored by three cultural pillars: Trust (binds us across continents), Collaboration (drives innovation and operational excellence), and Courage (shapes our future, empowering us to pioneer new solutions)—with an unconditional foundation in Safety, Health, and Sustainability.

Our Vision: As the global energy landscape transforms, Vopak is accelerating the transition towards sustainable feedstocks and renewable energy carriers while pioneering digital operations. We are building an interconnected, data-driven supply chain where predictive models and automated optimization ensure safer, cleaner, and more agile terminal operations.

Career Opportunities & Team Growth: We actively welcome quantitative talent. Our team is expanding rapidly: Wessel Verhagen will join on November 1st, followed by Justin Starreveld on January 1st, both dedicated to Operations Research, Analytics, and AI. We offer thesis internships, working-student positions, and graduate career paths. Our recruitment process is straightforward and personal: an introductory alignment call, a collaborative case discussion to explore your quantitative problem-solving skills, and a final mutual fit conversation.
